Vicky Lucas
Vicky Lucas is a seasoned Mental Health Nurse and Psychotherapist with over 21 years of experience working across diverse settings, including forensic, substance misuse, adult mental health, and children and adolescents. Formerly a senior lecturer and course lead at the University of Suffolk, Vicky spearheaded innovative hybrid approaches to education. She holds a BSc in Nursing, a Non-Medical Prescribing MA, and a PG Cert in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Supervision. Additionally, she has completed training in RODBT, specialist cbt interventions, and is an accredited consultant in EMDR, offering supervision to organisations and individuals providing EMDR.
An accredited therapist and supervisor with the BABCP, Vicky currently practises at the Pulvertaft Unit at UHDB. She continues to collaborate and work with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and currently supervises practitioners working with complex mental health issues. Vicky also consults as an advisory board member for an organisation dedicated to supporting serving forces and veterans and volunteers with Rock to Recovery.
Vicky offers additional support to trainee therapists, focusing on CBT approaches and helping them pass key components of their courses. She has also designed a KSA course, equivalent to the BABCP's requirement for evidencing three years of experience in mental health. Her dedication to training and developing practitioners ensures that evidence-based practice is upheld throughout healthcare services, both in the private and public sectors, underscoring the integral link between mind and body.
Passionate about driving forward quality services, Vicky has a proven track record of enhancing care quality during times of austerity through effective supervision, training, and evidence-based group work design. In her role at the Pulvertaft Unit, Vicky has been instrumental in developing a pioneering CBT pathway within a physical care setting. Her commitment to excellence was recognised with the Inclusion Award at the Royal Derby Hospital. Furthermore, she has published groundbreaking work on the importance of talking therapies within hospital physical care settings.
